Wednesday Morning Ritual

My morning was spent tweaking & fluffing pieces in progress. I also had fun experimenting with a new tool/present I received for Christmas. Amy gave me an old box of metal letter & number stencils that I love. This morning I played.

Christmas Monday in the Studio

Being off today in observance of Christmas meant a day filled with stuff other than library work. I've been a little sluggish over the last week and haven't spent much time in the studio or in blog land. This afternoon I flipped the switch and got myself upstairs.

I'm in the final prepping stages of my upcoming Visual Learning show at CML's Main Library. Today I spent a little time working on the piece pictured above. Most of the pieces in the show will be assemblage - the smallest measuring 4"x5" and the largest measuring 18"X36". I will also have a few paintings on canvas in the show as well. I feel that the paintings help tell the story for the group of pieces.

In preparation for the show, I had to write an artist bio & statement which was tricky. The statement below hopefully represents well this newest collection of work.

My work is contemplative and playful. While some pieces are purely decorative exploring color, texture and design others delve into the inner workings of an abstract environment through surreal narratives that strive to engage the viewer's sense of mystery. Over the last year my love of collecting old things morphed with my love for creating and this new collection of work emerged. My work seeks to not only bring something new to the moment but to celebrate the inherent beauty of the world as we know it through its slight re-purposing as art.

I don't have many words this morning but wanted to share what I've been working on this Wednesday before work. This canvas will sit inside an old wooden drawer once complete and the drawer will hang.
